Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu.
My ramadan cake has nothing to do with ramadan, well besides the fact that this is going to be a food free ramadan for buttercreamdanddeen.
Ramadan is not the month to stuff ourselves and I won’t be making any special food this month inshaAllah. Ramadan is about connecting with Allah swt and seeking his forgivness for what a mess you are and increasing your worship. Maintain habits now to keep throughout the year.
Am I sucking the fun out of this blog?
Yes you say?
Alhamdulillah *prances around the room*
There were a couple recipes buzzing around my head this week. I wanted to some banoffee cupcakes but I also wanted to try covering a cake the dreaded sugarpaste.
My cakenemy sugarpaste. It smells funny, it tastes weird, I hate the texture, people leave it on their plates, and it smells funny. Maybe i’m just averse to the stuff because i’m not used to it. I don’t come from a celebration cake kinda family and I only have vague memories of eating the stuff at some random childs birthday at school. The chewyness of sugarpaste and the pleasant taste of royal icing. Thats how I am set so I don’t know how i’m going to be able to turn into a sugarpaste lover in order to make magnificent masterpieces of sugar art one day.
One step at a time
1. Buy the stuff
2. Cover a cake in it
3. Eat it
*shudders*
I managed to complete all three Alhamdulillah. I made a pistachio cake with caramel italian meringue buttercream. I used brown sugar instead of caster but next time I won’t bring it up to 121 degrees C because it was too thick and I’m sure there was an after taste of burnt sugar. I guess different sugars have different properties.
My inspiration for this cake was many. I had already made the rose a few weeks back and wanted to do a style vaguely reminiscent of PiP Studio. Was I completely happy? Obviously not. I had a tear in the sugarpaste; I rolled it to thin; the band in the middle was messy; the pearl border cutter was terrible and is to be relegated; the cake was cold when I covered it which ended up with loadsa air bubbles. I could go on but I think that shall suffice.
